THE DISINFORMATION AGE

September 28, 20140 Comments

Today I’d like to introduce to my audience some thoughts on critical thinking. First we’ll explore some thoughts by Dr Roberts, in the following blog we’ll cover cognitive dissonance, the Dunning-Kruger effect and then into the most popular argumentative fallacies like Ad hominem, and others . It’s important that the TCM practitioner be aware of these problems since many of our “health experts” may not be such experts after all. The result of this disinformation-call it conflict of interest disinformation-is that world is getting sicker and sicker. Learn to recognize these fallacies and avoid falling into their trap. For more information on a vast number of topics I have 100 blogs for you to read at my sister site www.inflaNATION.com where many of my upcoming book’s topics are discussed.

THE DISINFORMATION AGE

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy during the Regan era and associate editor of the Wall Street Journal had this to say about our current media blackout:

We have heard all our lives that ideas are the most powerful force and prevail over material interests. Perhaps this was once true, but that would have been in previous times when material interests did not control the media, the universities, and the publishing companies along with the government. Voices such as mine, that of a high US Treasury official, and that of Spence, a Nobel Prize winner, cannot compete with the voices paid by Big Money. Today the bulk of the population knows nothing except the propaganda fed to them by the oligarchic interests. They sit in front of Fox News or CNN and ingest it all. Those who fancy themselves more sophisticated get the same dose of lies from the New York Times.

If those who speak truth cannot be bought off or shut up, they are ignored or demonized. Almost everything Americans need to know is off limits in public discussion. Anyone who broaches the truth becomes an “anti-American,” a “terrorist sympathizer,” a “commie-socialist,” a “conspiracy theorist,” an “anti-semite,” a “kook,” or some other name designed to scare Americans away from the message of truth.

The corrupt corporations, the corrupt media, and the corrupt US government have insulated the country from truth. The result will be a massive crash. A country built on lies is like a house built on sand.

Quickly now, did you just call Roberts a kook or did you believe what he is saying? The effect of cognitive dissonance predicts that you will call him a nut job. He is one of many who have been warning us of this problem for years. The above statement applies equally to our health care, and recommendations that stem from the societies and agencies affiliated with it. I have to constantly remind people that in America these days it’s usually the kook that knows the truth. I’ll give you one example out of dozens.

Go into any invasive cardiologist’s office and tell them that cholesterol doesn’t cause heart disease or that statins do not protect from heart attack. I can promise you that you will forever be a kook even if you have 200 referenced sources of information that supports that view, and your own personal health success story that contradicts the current cholesterol paradigm (I have those references and that story). Sadly, profitable theories live very long lives. That’s why I call it the Commercial Sick Care System not a Health Care System. Read on or you may lose your opportunity to make amends. We are being affronted on a grand scale and your future, our future, depends on how we respond to that vandalism.

Our main information source is now Junk Food TV. For physicians working in our modern charnel houses, their information comes from the four corners of the box they are trapped in. It’s like encountering a bishop defending the faith when I mention a common finding that rubs against the status quo. Those same doctors will remind you with a smirk of self-confidence how important statins and vaccines are while eating TV dinners and chugging sports drinks. They seem oblivious that something may be wrong. The best part is that these experts are themselves ill. If you doubt it go to any hospital and look at the food being served and the unsightly habitus of most of our esteemed doctors.

The same holds for any professional information that physicians receive from their respective trade journals and drug reps. Here the facts have important caveats: with contentious subject matter like vaccines and autoimmune disease or autism, the harms are simply not discussed. Or for example when prescribing statins the dangerous drug reactions are off the table for discussion except within the smoke-filled rooms where Big Pharma plans its next move.

That’s just wrong I think we all can agree? It’s lie by omission, a technique utilized daily by the media in our new age of “The Truth Emergency” (search truth emergency at http://www.projectcensored.org/). Not only are doctors left in the lurch but so are the rest of the country’s inhabitants.

Just like their patients, most docs are all too happy to take another pill too. Like the time I overheard a cardiologist telling his wife as they were planning to hit a certain “questionable” restaurant later in the evening: “I’ll just take another Lipitor before we eat.” I wonder if he is still around? He more correctly should have downed a metformin pill, and a handful of antioxidants. He doesn’t know this because his drug rep pushes the Pills and Procedures Paradigm which currently tells him that cholesterol and saturated fat are the only players in heart disease. He remains ignorant because he doesn’t read enough research on his own that contradicts the paradigm he lives for. Let me just reassure you-gentle reader-that there is a sea of enquiry that contradicts many pillars of institutional health doctrine. This is very easy to understand when you realize that conflict of interest money is used to manufacture junk science in support of this or that drug.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE INDUSTRIAL DINER

But it’s worse than simple ignorance of the facts. America’s new Industrial Diner, the first generation of kids raised solely on The Industrial Dinner menu, is evolutionarily brand spanking new. It’s tough to draw a line saying that after a certain date begins the Industrial Diner generation. Things have become more and more synthetic each decade especially since the 1950’s so, let’s say, that any generation born in the 21st century, in the year 2000 or later, is part of the Industrial generation. Any idea what a kid will look like after 40 years of drinking tap water and eating processed, dead, phood? Talk about an experiment whose results could be anything. One of the reasons is that our livers, brain cells, and endothelium, our bodies, do not know what to do with all of these new, foreign, gee-wiz factory molecules. Don’t even get me started on the tremendous caloric affront. These foods are rife with synthetics, empty calories, and the promise of agro-chemistry, fomenting a daily attrition on health. It’s all made worse with the Pills and Procedures Paradigm, (PAPP).

Examples of proof are the escalating rates of many deadly cancers. Or witness the planet’s inhabitants getting fatter and fatter. If the medical Elites were giving non-agenda driven advice, in other words honest health advice, we would be thinner and healthier wouldn’t we? Not the bloated, cancerous, hypertensive cartoons of humans we have become. Remember your doctor is just the useful idiot in all of this. He’s simply practicing the form of medicine the Pills and Procedures Paradigm taught him while following his particular society’s recommendations. The societies unfortunately have an agenda, and are plagued by conflict of interest.

OBESITY BIGGER HEALTH CRISIS THAN HUNGER

Understanding what makes for a healthy diet and lifestyle has never been more important. Shockingly, obesity has now become a greater global health crisis than hunger! Obesity is also the leading cause of disabilities around the world, according to the latest Global Burden of Disease study, published in The Lancet. As reported by CNN Health:

The report revealed that every country, with the exception of those in sub-Saharan Africa, faces alarming obesity rates — an increase of 82 percent globally in the past two decades. Middle Eastern countries are more obese than ever, seeing a 100% increase since 1990. ‘The so-called ‘Western lifestyle’ is being adapted all around the world, and the impacts are all the same,’ [co-author Ali] Mokdad said.

… for the first time, noncommunicable diseases like diabetes, stroke and heart disease top the list of leading causes of years spent sick or injured. ‘All these problems are tied to obesity,’ Mokdad said. ‘We’re even seeing a large percentage of people suffering back pain now. If we could lower the obesity rates, we’d see the numbers of noncommunicable diseases and pain decrease as well.’

People are living longer than projected in 1990 — on average, 10.7 more years for men, and 12.6 more years for women. But for many of them, the quality of life during those years is not good. On average, people are plagued by illness or pain during the last 14 years of life…

Yes, modern medicine may be able to keep sick people alive longer, but it fails miserably when it comes to providing a high quality of life. Lifestyle-related chronic diseases are also threatening to bankrupt nations across the globe. Dr. Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization has referred to noncommunicable diseases “a slow-motion disaster” that may eventually become financially unsustainable. According to a 2011 reportby the World Economic Forum and Harvard School of Public Health, noncommunicable diseases is expected to cost more than $30 trillion over the next two decades alone!

Clearly, something needs to change. Part of the problem is that so many of the recommendations issued by conventional medicine are seriously flawed, having been thoroughly corrupted by conflicts of interest. The notion that you cannot trust your doctor’s advice on diet and exercise is disconcerting…There’s no shortage of physicians that will OK aspartame for weight control and diabetics, or tell you to avoid saturated fats and stick to a low-fat diet, for example. The list goes on. The failure of such recommendations to produce good health can clearly be seen among the general population that believes such myths. [1] [Emphasis mine]

Real health advice means telling your patients that eating 11 servings of “heart healthy grains” per day is flat out wrong. But this is just one consideration that could help the average patient. There are dozens more that you can read in my book when published.

I am also furious because most of us are daydreaming, completely unaware of the insidious threat to our families. It’s like this: our health is being compromised because of our medical societies, and our government’s collusion with Big Agra, Big Pharma, and any other Big you care to name. Our prized cancer research institutions, the USDA, and the FDA have an entrenched revolving door policy with big business. In this case it’s numerous cancer causing industries,[2] Big Agra, and Big Pharma respectively. Who benefits when we are all kept sick? Where can money be made off obese, diabetic patients with cancer and heart disease? Think revolvers.

THE REVOLVERS

The revolver is something I’d like to ban but before all of you gun grabbers lose your shirts it’s not the pistol. Americans have been asleep far too long. While in the black of night these Revolvers have created a culture of corruption to insure that each opportunist in a position of authority, assists, and enriches the other at the expense of the American people. They operate through a revolving door of personal enhancement. In a parallel that is identical to Ancient Rome prior to the fall of the Imperial Empire. They have misused their power of public trust for personal enrichment by approving horridly unhealthy foods like GMO’s, while ignoring the infusion of thousands of synthetic food additives into our food chain. Furthermore, the knee-jerk reflex is to push drugs and procedures for profit like chemotherapy and mammography with utter disregard for proven preventive measures. All of this and much more conspire to make us the sickest population of humans to date, while generating the most scandalous profits Big Business has ever seen. Big Pharma alone now earns more per annum than the rest of the Fortune 500 combined. This has led to the sacking of the agencies that once protected us. It’s rampant and sadly I must admit complete. Because of this we have nearly 80 million people with metabolic syndrome, two thirds of the population fat and sick, childhood cancers off the charts, neurodegenerative diseases skyrocketing and diabesity is pandemic. That’s just the small stuff I haven’t even mentioned mental-emotional illness, stroke, heart failure and heart attacks.

The “Better Living Through Chemistry” model of medical care, and the research that supports it, is on the wrong trajectory. They prefer to market high profit synthetic drugs that do little to help us often causing “new diseases” rather than curing or preventing old ones. I’ve coined the term the Pills and Procedures Paradigm (PAPP).

Next time I’ll continue our discussion on why we are getting so sick and fat. We’ll also define cognitive dissonance and host of other things to be aware of. It is my hope that after reading this series you will be well equipped to discern truth from fiction.

Cheers!
